When my publisher first floated the idea of this image as the cover design, it took me by surprise.  The cover for my first book, Good Neighbours, was so subtle that I assumed that this would be understated as well.  

But it works.  Of Starlight and Plague is a dynamic novel with lots of big ideas but also a lot of action and it needed a cover design that captured its drama and foreboding.

We got him!  It has been confirmed that actor Martin Carroll will voice the audiobook edition of Of Starlight and Plague.

Martin has worked in Theatre, TV, Voice-Overs, Film and Radio for over forty years.  His film credits include The Little Stranger, World War Z, Little Shop of Horrors & Perfect State.  His television work includes The Alienists: The Angel of Darkness (Paramount TV) and Silent Witness (BBC-TV).  He played in the Globe's transfer of Richard III & Twelfth Night to the Apollo Theatre in London's West End and has toured the UK with The Agatha Christie Company & The Classic Thriller Company.

I am so excited to hear what he does with the novel!

A gift from my family ... a necklace with my book cover on it! Feeling like a very luck, very spoiled girl!

After six years of work, thousands of pages of research notes,

five drafts and a lot of paracetamol, the day has arrived.  Of Starlight and Plague has now been officially released.  We've had a weekend of nail-biting as the first reviews came in.  They have been really positive.  Check them out on the "My Work" page of this website.

It was also a weekend for celebration and my wonderful family made it truly special.  The kids have been helping me out on social media -- yes, I am a dinosaur who struggles with the ways of the Instagram.  

We had a brilliant meal in Gonzos and look!  Of Starlight and Plague cupcakes!

It really doesn't get any better than this!

One week on and I've hit the top 25!    Again, I know that it won't last.  But this is something that I never anticipated.  Of Starlight and Plague briefly ranked higher than ...

Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles, 

Anno Dracula, 

Pride, Prejudice and Zombies,

and Charlaine Harris's True Blood series.

That is heady company to keep.

Book Sales Rankings on Amazon fluctuate wildly within a very short period of time.  Over the weekend, Of Starlight and Plague was ranked 590th out of all Dystopian and Post-Apocalyptic Fiction in the U.S.   That is pretty good considering the sheer volume of books on the market.

But one number caused me to do a little victory dance in my kitchen (to ELO's "I'm Alive" -- a vaguely geriatric interpretive dance using a wooden spoon for a microphone):  the novel hit #97 out of all books on Zombies, Werewolves and Vampires.  That is competing against Bram Stoker's Dracula, Matheson's I Am Legend and Brooks's World War Z.

The rank will inevitably slip, but for one brief, shining moment, something that I wrote hit the top 100.

Kindle Countdown Sale of “Of Starlight and Plague”!
